   Child Nutrition Education

CCC provides support throughout the school year to the teachers who participate in this program, providing curriculum and classroom material. CCC staff members provide a hands-on, interactive 10-week enrichment project that takes the students “from planting to harvesting.” The children learn how to identify fruits and vegetables in the five color groups (red, yellow, blue, green, and white) and the benefits of these foods. The program goals are to help the children:

  • Identify fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Incorporate five fruits and vegetables a day into their diets
  • Gain an understanding of the nutritional benefits of these foods

We expect that the program will help the children increase their ability to obtain, select, and prepare healthier foods, and that changes in attitudes, values and behaviors will be attained that will result in healthier, longer lives.

The program is sponsored by the Junior League of the Palm Beaches, Inc., the Sun-Sentinel Children’s Fund, the Southeast Florida Episcopal Foundation, Inc., and the BankAtlantic Foundation.
